I usually like to focus on the beauty I find in fashion but decided to focus on the overwhelming beauty of the Bahamas that seemed to be everywhere I looked

Usualmente me gusta enfocarme en la belleza que encuentro en la moda, pero esta vez decidí enfocarme en la inmensa belleza de las Bahamas, que parecía estar en todas partes.

To celebrate my birthday this year nine of my closest friends and I decided to flee freezing NYC and pay a visit to Nassau Bahamas. We did a quick shoot in our temporary tropical backyard before heading to the beach…

This Sunday we paid a visit to the Kings County Distillery in Brooklyn. It was such a beautiful day in NYC so I took advantage of the weather and pulled out a dress I bought last week. We walked from our apartment to the Navy Yard and found the distillery which was in a beautiful old brick building. I found that even more interesting than the actual distilling happening inside, were all the bottles and the decor! The whole places was filled with these glass bottles. Some of them contained “mystery liquid” which were batches in the experimental stage, some of them had terrariums and of course some of them were filled with Bourbon.

Hello, San Francisco

This weekend I was lucky enough to spend some time in beautiful San Francisco. I had been dying to see the Moraga Steps so this was a great time to see them.

I wasn’t expecting to walk on a dirt path so I had to walk along the logs to avoid dirt in my shoes…

Brooklyn Flea + Smorgasburg

Yesterday was Brooklyn Flea+Smorgasburg day. They’ve moved both events into the second floor of a warehouse at 80 North 5th St at Wythe Ave. I never really attend flea markets in the summer because they seems like more of a summer event. I’m glad we decided to go as we were pleasantly surprised to find the quality of vendors and food was the same.

A few flea finds…

1. Flux Productions is a small craft company based in Fort Green. Everything is made by hand using the highest quality leather and hardware. I fell in love with this Cork, Felt and Rubber iPad case $90

bag

2. I’ve seen APOTHEKE products at West Elm but I finally had a chance to stop by their booth and sample their goods. The candles are exquisite and I want every single soap bar they carry. Everything is hand made in Brooklyn using 100% soy wax fragrance and essential oils. Candles $28, Soap Bars $8

apotheke

3. It wouldn’t be a trip to Smorgasburg without Spencer sampling at least 4 food boths…he loves food! We had heard through Gothamist that the Ramen Burger was incredible so we finally tried it and its amazing! In simple terms the Ramen Burger is a burger made with ramen discs fried in sesame oil instead of bread. The patty is grilled and topped with shoyu sauce, peppery arugula and sprinkled with scallions. Yum!

Brooklyn Flea+Smorgasburg is open Saturday and Sunday from 10:00am-6:00pm. It is held indoors through March 2014 with 120 Goods Vendors and 60 Food Vendors.

Lisbon, Portugal

Lisbon and San Francisco were separated at birth. No doubt about it. The feel, the fog, the bridge, the trolleys…all the same! I loved visiting Lisbon with Spencer because we had both been wanting to go for quite some time. We stopped at this lovely cafe called Pensao Amor. It was perhaps the most beautiful cafe I have ever been in. Full of bright pink walls, velvet chairs and cute balconies. And of course the coffee was delicious.

After coffee we braved the rain and tried some shots of Ginjinha – a sour cherry liqueur. It was delicious but very strong!

In the afternoon we headed out for Spencer’s birthday dinner and came across this beautiful trolley and street.

We went to Cervejaria Ramiro which we heard about on No Reservations. Of course, it did not disappoint. The food was incredible and although we ordered FAR too much food I’m glad we were able to try a little bit of everything. If ever in Lisbon do not skip out on this.

Tangier, Morocco

Today, Spencer and I took a boat from Tarifa, Spain to Tangier, Morocco. It’s been a forever dream of mine to travel to Morocco and experience the beauty of their markets and the taste of their tea.

After walking around for a few hours, people watching and seeing the wonderful tiles outside of every home we stopped to eat some traditional food and drink some tea. The food was delicious and the tea refreshing. Although I don’t think I’ll ever return to Tangier I am dying to return to Morocco. Perhaps our next trip will be Marrakech.

La Alhambra

Today we decided to take a very lengthy tour that explained the water system in Granada. I won’t go completely into it but in short the technology we use today was invented in Granada by the Muslims. All over the city you can see a lot of “aljibres” where the town used to collect water from. I was able to go down to the water deposit where the water was collected and purified for drinking. Incredible.

After the water tour we headed to the Alhambra …wow. I can’t even imagine being a queen living in that castle with all of those beautiful gardens. The place is quite impressive especially when you think of how old it is.

Granada, Spain

Granada…oh, Granada.

Possibly the best place we’ve been to during this whole trip. We rented an air b&b for almost nothing in the wonderful neighborhood of Albaicín. The neighborhood made me think if Puerto Viejo in Algorta. All white little houses connected to one another.

Last night we parked the car up the hill and found the house we were staying at. The owner Anna greeted us and opened the doors to a beautiful house that dates back to the 1300’s. The neighborhood itself was inside the wall created when the city lived under the Catholic king and queen. You can still see the wall built around the city and the actual archways to get in and out.

We ate our meat, cheese, bread and drank our wine. There was a plaza around the corner we took a bottle of wine to and were able to meet two locals – Richard and Adolfo. They were two super cool guys that ended up giving us great tips on places to visit while in Granada. We listened to a group of their friends play flamenco on their guitars and hung out with Adolfo and Richard. We headed back home and woke up late the next morning…
